Adi Nampreet – My KY Journey

Part 5

Creating Teachers of the Future

Learning to Serve from the Heart

This training is about becoming teachers. And one day soon, I hope to help create teachers with calibre too. That’s how this lineage keeps growing strong.

Yogi Bhajan once said that as students we must aim to become ten times greater than our teacher because that’s how the teachings and lineage stay alive. It’s through our growth, effort, and our calibre. This path isn’t a fairy tale ride to instant enlightenment as the world would like people to believe. It’s real honest work that shapes our mind and spirit and radiates through every part of our life to stand steady in the teachings and serve from our hearts.

I have to say before I go any further that it felt so good to be back together again. This was our second in-person retreat, and it was a big one. It’s always special being in the same room, breathing and meditating together, and sharing life stories and meals. The Zoom classes kept us connected between retreats, but being together in person reminded me how important Sangat really is.

One of the biggest moments for me this retreat was a foundational kriya we did for 31 minutes, with my arms raised the entire time to move energy through the chakras. At first, it felt impossible. My arms ached; my mind clouded with the pain. But then when I focused on the sound current and Dristi, my awareness began to shift. I found a steadiness and could keep going. I even started to enjoy it. Didar said that the 40-day Sadhana I had just completed prepared me for this moment. That’s the power of our practice. It changes you from the inside out and gives you a toolbox to handle life when things get a little rough.

Aquarian Sadhana was another highlight. I’ve always loved it and I felt grateful to lead it twice during this retreat. Priya Angad and I wake up so early to travel nearly an hour to the retreat location but it’s the most beautiful time of day. Chanting the mantras is my favourite part. It feels like a connection to ancient times and the Gurus and it is why I keep showing up.

We practiced timing to ensure as teachers, we don’t go under or over our class time. Both mornings that I led Aquarian Sadhana, I did exactly that! One morning I finished too early and the next I ran overtime. Clearly my math skills are based on Einstein’s theory of relativity… lol

We had plenty of laughs. One that still makes me chuckle was a partner meditation with Priya Angad. The idea was to say something negative to each another, but we just couldn’t think of anything. We both laughed so hard. The only thing she managed to tease me about was my fluffy blanket, apparently, it’s too fluffy for her taste.

The final retreat is in October, and I know it’s going to be extra special. I can’t believe how quickly time has flown. When I started this training, graduation felt so far away, but now it’s almost here. I know I’m not the same person I was when I began this Level One training. I feel more competent and ready to teacher in a way I didn’t at the start. I feel more grounded in the teachings. I can’t wait to sit with my Sangat again to share in Sadhana, laughter and probably cry a few happy tears, and to celebrate. Graduation in October will be the end of this training, but really, I’m seeing it as the beginning of a new chapter.

Much Love
Adi Nampreet xx
