Adi Nampreet – My KY Journey
Part 4
When is a Teacher Training Not a Training?
My realisation of what a KRI Certified Teacher Training should be
When I signed up for my first Kundalini Yoga teacher training, I believed it was KRI accredited as the teacher was KRI trained. I paid in the vicinity of $2000 for LIVE online training and was excited to learn all I could.
Day one came and we all introduced ourselves. I had practiced Kundalini Yoga in the past and knew how powerful some kriyas and meditations could be. So when it came my turn to share, I spoke honestly and with some excitement, thinking I was in a safe place, especially since there were other yoga teachers present. I was wrong!
The teacher sarcastically responded, “Well, my job is done. What are you doing here then?”
I was dumbstruck, put in my place for sharing my experience.
The course itself had its powerful moments, but it also lacked structure and clarity. We practiced many Kriyas with the teacher leading the class. I had questions but some of the answers received were unclear. Thinking back, we never were given the chance to ‘teach’ a class or even part of a class. We had homework which was to practice the Kriyas at home for 40 days and keep a journal of each day.
After I finished the course, I went to the KYTANZ website to join the community only to find out that my course was not certified. I remember my teacher dismissing it, saying ‘it’s just a piece of paper’ and that being a KYTANZ member wasn’t necessary.
But it was necessary, and it was important to me.
Now, I’m in the final months of my KRI-certified training with a KRI certified Lead Trainer the difference is clear. The depth of integrity, accountability and the responsibility we all have as teachers of this sacred lineage is now clarified. The structure of the training and the consistent mentoring from the Lead trainer and other KRI teachers empowers you along the path. I finally understand one of the most important things: as teachers, we don’t just share these sacred practices, we carry the vibration of a sacred lineage rooted in truth and lived authenticity.
So, if you are thinking of training in Kundalini Yoga, my advice to you is to check to see if the Lead Trainer and the content of the course is KRI certified. If not, then don’t waste your time and money.
Much Love
